Setting up the iPhone using IMAP
Introduction
This procedure walks through configuring an iPhone for synchronization with your Thoughtbus mailbox.
NOTE: In the iPhone’s mail configuration utility, you will see IMAP, POP, and Exchange. Apple has licensed the ActiveSync technology from Microsoft, but as of yet, Apple has not enabled the “Exchange” portion of its mail client.
Setting up the mail Account
1. On the iPhone, choose “Settings”, and then choose “Mail”.
2. You’ll want to create a new account, of type “Other”.
3. Choose type “IMAP”.
4. Fill in the relevant fields with the following information:
ACOUNT INFORMATION

Name: Enter your name here
Address: Enter your primary email address here
Description: This can be anything, but if you skip over it, it defaults to your email address
INCOMING MAIL SERVER

Host Name: imail.thoughtbus.com
User Name: Enter your UPN login here
Note: Your UPN login may be the same as your email address, but not necessarily – check with your organization’s Thoughtbus administrator if you are unsure.
Password: Enter your Thoughtbus password here
OUTGOING MAIL SERVER

Host Name: imail.thoughtbus.com
User Name: Enter your UPN login here

5. Hit the “Save” button.
6. Now, go back to the main iPhone screen, choose the “Mail” application, select your account (if it does not come up automatically), and hit the Send/Receive icon. The iPhone should connect, and will start synchronizing messages.
7. IF YOU ARE SYNCHRONIZING YOUR IPHONE USING ITUNES, and the phone still will not wirelessly synchronize your email, go back to “Settings”, choose “Mail”, and edit the settings for your Thoughtbus IMAP account.
8. Tap the “Advanced” section (directly above the “Delete Account” bar), and look for the section that deals with “Authentication”. This should be set to “Password”.
(end of procedure.)
