Setting up Microsoft Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition

Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition, is the latest update to Microsoft Entourage 2008.  It includes a number of very useful features and enhancements (including Tasks, Notes, and Categories synchronization), and we highly recommend upgrading.  However, there are a number of prerequisites, one of them being an Exchange 2007 or 2010 mailbox.  The version you’ll need is 13.0 or later, but to get there, you may need to install multiple updates.  If it’s been a while since you last updated Entourage, you’ll need to install the updates one-by-one.

Prerequisites

-         A mailbox hosted on Microsoft Exchange 2007 or 2010.  If you’re still on Exchange 2003 and would like to upgrade, please contact Thoughtbus customer support at (800) 385-0474, or support@thoughtbus.com.

-         You’ll need to ensure that your email domain has an “autodiscover” CNAME record set up.  Information on this DNS record was provided to you when you migrated from Exchange 2003 (or when you signed on as a customer), but if you need more details, please see the following FAQ, “How do I set up my DNS for the ‘autodiscover’ service?”:  http://www.thoughtbus.com/customer_support/FAQ/Entry-Exchange2007FAQ.htm .

Alternatively, you can configure the record directly on your Mac.  For further information on that, see the FAQ, above, “How do I update my ‘hosts’ file for the ‘autodiscover’ service if I’m on a Mac?”

-         Microsoft Entourage 2008.

Procedure

1.      You can find your current Entourage version by checking “Entourage – About Microsoft Office Entourage”

2.      Start the upgrade process by going to “Help – Check for Updates”

3.      If you start from Entourage 12.0, the first update will be SP1, and will upgrade you to 12.1.  Following that, you’ll install SP2 for version 12.2, and then a minor upgrade to 12.2.1.

4.      Once you’re there, shut down Entourage and click here to download the Entourage Web Services Edition installer.

5.      If installation doesn’t start automatically, double-click the .dmg file to install.

Modifying an existing identity

1.      Start Entourage and choose “Tools – Accounts”, and double-click your Exchange account.

2.      Click the “Advanced” tab.

3.      Change the Exchange Server to https://mail2007.thoughtbus.com/ews/exchange.asmx, and then ensure that the LDAP server field is blank.  It should look like this:
